What's in our name

More than half the acreage on our farm is planted in varietals originating in regions of Portugal. The highly desirable Souzao (suh-ZAH-oh) grape comes from the Minho region. Tinta Cão (TIN-tah ka-oo) is a premium red wine grape primarily used in production of port. It made its first appearance in the Douro region, along with the dry, full-bodied Tempranillo (tem-pra-NEE-yo).

One thing was for certain, we knew that ours would be a quality wine, a first-rate wine, good wine. And it was as though our name came whispering from the canes and across the fields.

Bom Vinho! Good wine!

Say what?

Bom (pronounced ‘boam’) Vinyo (VEEN-yo)  is Portuguese for “good wine.”

Pairings with Chardonnay

This spring we couldn’t have been more pleased when our 2016/2017 Chardonnay blend was awarded a silver medal in the 2019 World Wide Championships. Tastings, an independent rating and review company for the beverage industry, gave our 2018 vintage an admirable rating of 86 points and noted it “highly impressive.”

Chardonnay happens to be one of the most diverse varietals of white wine for food pairings. With a wide variety of styles, this popular wine goes with all types of main dishes and appetizers. If you are interested in learning about food and wine pairings, this is a great wine to start with.

With a bit of guidance and some basic principles, discovering your favorite combinations can be enjoyable and a lot of fun. For instance, wine should have a comparable flavor intensity as the food. Red wines are often best paired with bold flavors such as beef, or even pork or chicken that is served with a strong flavored sauce. White wines pair best with meats that are lighter, such as fish or chicken. There are a many websites and good books on the subject, that will help you get started.

Start with your favorite wine, or choose your favorite recipe. Either way works fine.

Just for fun, here are some recipes that we like with Chardonnay. Enjoy!

Sip Sip Hooray!

Our 2017 Verdelho received a GOLD medal at the 10th Annual Sommelier Challenge in San Diego, California. Sommelier Gold honors were awarded to wines that delivered additional complexity and character and rose above a straightforward recommendation. This is an international challenge to which wines from all over the world are submitted, and we are proud to come home with a Gold.

Sommelier Challenge brings together a dynamic group of wine professionals to evaluate wines and single out those that merit honor.  Sommeliers have developed in the past decade or so to transform the way wine savvy restaurants throughout the world purchase and present wines to an ever more complex customer base.

Head over to our wine sales and grab our award-winning wine for yourself and enjoy. Cheers!
